The mission of SPAVO is helping people to change their lives, maximizing every possible source of help. Their vision is to provide preventive services of domestic violence, support and protect receivers of violence and support and guidance users of violence.
The core of SPAVO’s work is prevention—raising awareness and educating the public to stop violence before it begins. The organization also offers direct support not only to those who are experiencing abuse but also to individuals who may be using violence, helping them find healthier ways to manage conflict. For those in immediate danger, SPAVO provides safe shelter and protection, creating a secure space where victims can begin to heal. Through counselling, particularly for women who have been battered, the organization offers emotional support and practical guidance to help them regain their strength and independence. SPAVO also invests in training volunteers, equipping them with both theoretical knowledge and practical tools to contribute meaningfully to its mission.
Beyond individual support, SPAVO works to inform the public and engage relevant authorities about the social impact of domestic violence, encouraging a more active and informed response. At a policy level, the organization identifies gaps in legislation and official procedures, advocating for necessary changes and promoting broader, more effective strategies to combat domestic violence across society.
Many women and men approach the organization for help, which is given to them unconditionally. Domestic violence does not discriminate – it affects individuals of all ethnicities, races and backgrounds.
SPAVO continues to be a cornerstone in the fight against domestic violence in Cyprus, offering protection, shelter, and comprehensive support services. Mettmann’s involvement reflects a broader vision of corporate responsibility and enduring support for organizations that safeguard human dignity.
